Researching ways to climate proof our forests by developing and monitoring two ‘climate future plots’. The plots includes local species as well as plants native to hotter and drier areas that are anticipated to match our future climate.
Engaging the community about the importance of large old trees and how to protect them. A project using citizen science to collect key data on old trees while providing the community and landholders with support to protect them through workshops and on-ground actions.
Creating networks of urban habitat and connecting people with nature and neighbours. Through knowledge sharing and a regenerative design process, the project supports residents to develop an ecologically informed and achievable vision for their shared habitat with extra-human life.
A regular live presentation and discussion forum that takes place each month at the Northern Arts Hotel. The forum is open to a diversity of views but values are oriented around environmental sustainability and social justice, key principles for addressing contemporary issues.
Inspiring and encouraging communities and businesses in Mount Alexander Shire to use 100% renewable energy by 2023. A web campaign and group creating advocacy media and working directly with businesses and organisations to help shift their operations.
Highlighting and celebrating what people are doing about the climate crisis here in Mount Alexander Shire. An uplifting podcast that shares local knowledge by giving air space to the people and organisations that are working towards a safer climate and environment
Building relationships and connections with a diverse range of community groups. The project facilitates structured conversations with community groups, giving participants an opening to discuss their fears and concerns about climate and develop collective climate action.
Turning waste into rich compost while increasing community knowledge, connections and reducing greenhouse gas emissions. A project where volunteer composters collect and process their neighbours’ organic food waste – reducing waste transportation miles and avoiding rotting organics in landfill
